5 Top Beard care tips

The hair on our face has become as important as the hair on the head. But unfortunately, it is not looked after or nurtured as such in some cases. You never have to worry about a receding beard line, do you? So we can see why it is not first on the list of grooming.

Afro hair is naturally dry. The curlier your hair is, the tendency you will have to dryer hair. The hair on the face is no exception. With the hair on the head, we are more prone to moisturise, condition and groom. Although it has become a modern-day fashion look, the hair on the face is not always nurtured as much and there is very little information on how to nurture it correctly. Here are tips on how to look after it.

5 steps to a strong and healthy beard and healthy skin to the beard area.

Step 1: Before washing the beard, brush to remove any loose hair, detangle, and remove any dirt.
Step 2: Apply warm water onto the hair and rinse for a couple of seconds to allow to open up the hair follicles of the beard. This will allow penetration of the cleansing product.
Step 3: Use a dedicated beard shampoo or a gentle facial wash to remove dirt and oil from the skin. Massage into the hair and the roots of the hair. Allow the shampoo or wash to sit on the hair for 1-2 minutes to allow penetration into the hair follicles.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 one more time if you have a build-up of product or dirt. Rinse beard cleanser with lukewarm water. Make sure to rinse near to actual skin also. Finish with cool water to close hair follicles.
Step 5: Towel dry the beard area. Apply beard oil before the hair is fully dry and massage it into the hair. Make sure to apply oil to the skin on the beard and the actual hair. Use a wide-tooth comb or a beard brush to help distribute the conditioning oil.

Repeat the process 2-3 times a week or as much as you feel you need to

TIP: If the beard feels very dry and brittle, apply a small amount of a hair conditioner after you have shampooed it. It is essential not to allow the conditioner to contact the actual skin. This must be on the hair only as any contact on the skin can irritate it.
